FOR THOSE WHO WRITE, OR WANT TO WRITE: Foreshadow

 You have to get your reader’s attention; it’s called the hook. I began my Toastmasters oral presentation last night by saying, “It’s not a popularity contest.” Some people will like your book, article, poem. Some won’t; it’s okay.” Do not let anyone or anything hold you back. Keep on writing. After the hook, work on expanding the details by foreshadowing what will come next in your story, article, book, poem. Foreshadowing means give a hint of what is to follow. Do this in the first 20 pages of a book, or close to the beginning of an article or poem.
